Advanced Stroke Class

Overview
FAQ

Competitive swimming lessons in Gilbert and Mesa, AZ, for swimmers ages 6 to 12.

The Advanced Stroke class is the final step in EVO's learn-to-swim pathway and the direct feeder into the Rio Swim Team. Sessions run a full 60 minutes, with coaches teaching circle swimming, lane etiquette, flip turns, and the four competitive strokes at the level a swim team expects on day one.

The format mirrors real team practice. With up to 16 students per coach, swimmers learn what training feels like before they ever sign up for a meet. Families across Gilbert, Mesa, Chandler, and the East Valley enroll their kids in Advanced Stroke as the bridge between mastered strokes and competitive readiness.

Why Families in Gilbert and Mesa Choose EVO

A direct pipeline to a real swim team.

EVO operates the Rio Swim Team, and Advanced Stroke is the bridge into it. Swimmers learn the routines, etiquette, and conditioning that competitive teams expect.

60-minute sessions, not 30.

Distance and stroke endurance need time. Advanced Stroke runs twice as long as every other class in the EVO pathway.

Coaches who have built competitive swimmers.

Mesa swimming lessons at this level demand more than basics. EVO's instructors teach with team-readiness as the destination, and competitive swimming in Mesa, AZ, and Gilbert is built into the curriculum.

Advanced Stroke Class (Ages 6 to 12)

Advanced Stroke Class (Ages 6 to 12)

The Advanced Stroke class is for confident swimmers ready to refine technique, build endurance, and step into a competitive environment. Children typically arrive after Dolphin, already comfortable with all four strokes. Advanced Stroke is where that comfort turns into competitive form.

What Your Swimmer Will Work On

All four competitive strokes. Refining freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly for efficiency and speed.

Flip turns and streamlining. Pushing off the wall with proper form for faster, smoother transitions.

Endurance and stability. Holding technique across full pool lengths.

Competitive swimming basics. Circle swimming, lane etiquette, and swim team fundamentals.

Sessions run 60 minutes in EVO's pools, one class per week.

Frequently Asked Questions

Babies can begin the Starfish class as early as 3 months old. At this stage, infant swimming lessons focus on water comfort and breath control rather than strokes, making early enrollment safe and age-appropriate.

Yes. EVO's Starfish class is a parent-tot swim class where a parent or caregiver joins the baby in the water for every session. The class covers water acclimation, basic skills, and parent-child bonding.

Both year-round locations in Gilbert and Mesa feature indoor, climate-controlled pools. Water temperature stays warm and consistent regardless of the season.

Bring a swim diaper, a towel, and a change of clothes for you and your baby. No goggles or special gear are needed for the Starfish level.

The Starfish class has a 12:1 student-to-coach ratio. Because a parent or caregiver is in the water with each baby, your little one has both professional guidance and your support at all times.

Once your child is ready, the next step is the Pufferfish class, another parent-tot level with an 8:1 ratio for ages 16 to 24 months. From there, swimmers move into EVO's entry-level classes like Otter and Seal.
